Are a group of Asian catfish that Contains four genera; which are: - Acrochordonichthys, Akysis, Breitensteinia and Parakysis.
There are at present twelve described species of Acrochordonichthys, three described species of Breitensteinia, twenty-seven described species of Akysis and five species of Parakysis.
Acrochordonichthys and Breitensteinia are commonly referred to as Asian Banjo catfish or stonecats, with Akysis and Parakysis being commonly referred to as Stream catfishes. It is mainly the Stream catfishes that are imported into the hobby, although from time to time the Banjo/stonecats are imported, albeit in small numbers. The Banjo’s are the largest in size, growing to 220mm SL in the case of Breitensteinia insignis. With the Akysis being somewhat smaller. With Akysis prashadi being amongst the largest at 60mm SL, and Akysis recavus being around the smallest at 30mm SL, and are found from northern Myanmar to the islands of Borneo and Sumatra.
Acrochordonichthys and Breitensteinia 'sp' get their common name of "banjo's" due to their likeness when viewed from above of the musical instrument 'the banjo'.
