There are many catfish species from around the world that could be said to be ‘Hill Stream’. But generally speaking the term is used too refer to Asian species. There are quite a few Genera & many species of Hill stream catfishes in Asia, and these include: - Akysisdae, (Asian banjo’s and stream catfish), Erethistidae, (Mothcats) & Sisoridae, (Asian whiptails, and hill-stream catfishes). Some species of which had been known to science and the hobby for many years and some that are only now being described. Due partly to the influx of these catfish into the hobby in recent years, correct identification of which, is in part quite difficult to establish un-less one has access to the scientific documentation, for which to the majority of aquarists is un-accessible.

As there are now quite a few new catfishes appearing in our local fish stores, many from Asia; it is becoming increasingly difficult to accurately identify them, as some enter the hobby under many varied names depending on what they were labeled at the collection holding point, and thus causing confusion to the retailer and aquarist alike. Hopefully I can go some way to alleviate some of these anomalies. Although this small site was launched in November 2006, I will be adding information monthly. Due to sites owned by friends of mine having 'Forums' i.e.: - Corydoras World, Planet Catfish & Scot Cat, I do not intend to incorporate a forum on this site for the foreseeable future.

Hopefully this site can offer something for the novice and advance aquarist alike. In basics I have tried to cover, what I believe are basic rules for keeping your fish healthy.
