
Erethistoides are small Erethistids that are found in the Ganges
and the Brahmaputra rivers and their tributaries of northern India,
laying in the southern shadow of the Himalayas. The genus
Erethistoides are different from other Erethistids, in so much as
they have a much more flattened head with a slender body; and that
the serrae on the anterior edge of the pectoral spine point in two
directions. (The serrae on the outer half of the spine pointing
away from the body and the serrae on the inner half of the spine
pointing towards the body). At the moment there are only five known
species of Erethistoides; these are: - E ascita, E cavatura, E
montana, E pipri and E sicula.
